HEY! let's wake things up out there.
I thought I'd give a yell, and get a little talk started about planning our next meeting. I was thinking about the ASIA meeting, and how I hoped that many of you folks will be there. I'll be going and I know Bryan is too- who else? Pipe up.

So I think our next meeting should be sometime shortly after the ASIA meeting, then we can recount the Symposium to those who could not make it. If any of you MGL folks would like to go but can't, and want to hear what went on during a certain workshop then one of us could go in your place and report back at the MGL meeting to fill you in! But I think it would be great fun to have a large MGL contingent there, and we could have a lot of fun as well!

So, let's start to talk about our next meeting, in the early summer......

So what's the approximate m/d that we'd be considering? And, yes, I'd love to hear about the symposium!

David Collins said he'd offer his shop for the next meeting. Hey David!!!

I did say that and I'm still planning on it. I have a few more things to nail
down on my calender, but 3-4 weeks after ASIA should work fine. That
would be about half way between ASIA and Healdsburg for those whose
calenders are already packed. I will also have to figure out the comfortable
capacity of my shop. Hopefully it won't result in anyone getting turned away,
but I'm thinking the max will be around 12-15 guests.

I'll get back with a firm date by the end of March. Until then, being my home
bench I would be happy to offer presentations. Suggestions for topics
welcome. Fret work, electronics, setups, tools and jigs, whatever interesting
repairs I have on my bench that week....

Thanks David! Any of the above topics would be interesting to me. Fretwork gives me the willies, though, so if you can work it out....

Hi there,

Seeing as this is the only topic in this forum, I figured this would be the best place to ask this question:

I am a high school student, but I am really interested in luthiery. I am in the process of building my first electric guitar, but I am interested in learning more about acoustics and their construction (I hope to make my own in the near future).

So really my main question is, would I be able to attend one of your meetings, just so I can get the feel of what real life luthiers do, and hopefully pick up some useful tips that I could use when I start construction of my very own acoustic? I looked on MGL main website, but I couldn't find any particular information on what I have to do to join or if their are any requirements.

I probably wouldn't attend any meetings until the summer, seeing as I have school when most of the meetings likely will occur, thats if it is alright for me to attend.

Thanks

-Rob

hello Rob,
And welcome to our little group! Sure, you are welcome to attend and participate. Keep checking in here as you can see we are planning for a summer meeting.
Meetings are very nice, but if you are a smart person you can get almost all the information you need right here. Just ask a lot of specific questions, over on the main OLF Forum you'll get more answers, and when yiou get an answer go right for your tools and give things a shot. Don't be afraid to jump in- that's how we all learned. And we want to see that first guitar!

Welcome, Rob! I think if you can post here, you're already signed up. As Mark wrote, most of the daily activity is on the main forum where you'll find many knowledgeable and friendly people. Meetings are open to you, but they don't happen on a regular basis, so keep checking back here.

Welcome, Rob! Worry not about your lack of experience. I've been a member for two years and have yet to make shavings!! By the way, we have no complaints about progress pics.

Hey we are a new guitar company in Northern MN. How do we contact luthiers? We are looking for a good luthier to work for us on a new design/concept electric guitar. Have prototypes done, have very interested vendors. Now we are starting up shop and final contracts.

Hi Mark

Count me in I learned a lot at the last one in Ann Arbor and met a bunch of cool people. I have a feeling that Davids shop will not hold enough people, we may need to go back to the Lodge house, which was a great place for the last meeting.

Count me in, I'll be there. I agree with Fred, the lodge would be great for a larger group. The BBQ ribs were awesome.

Perhaps we should have a gathering (even a smaller one) within the next month or two and then have the bigger one in the fall like we did before. Anyone interested?

Oh Mr. Kotter, Mr. Kotter I'm interested!!! :D

FYI regarding the larger gathering we are thinking of doing the exact same thing that we did at the Black Elks Lodge in Ann Arbor again this year. No date has been determined yet so I have nothing to share but I promise to let everyone know when we know more.

I am all for smaller, more frequent gatherings too and it would be great if someone else can put these together please?

I would love to have some of you guys out to my my place one weekend. My shop is in the basement and is large enough for a smaller group. I also have a 2 acre backyard which is great for BBQ, beer, and...

For those who have been thinking of doing the R-n-R Hall of Fame, Cleveland is a great place to visit.
